Ultimate OC Restaurants, 2008; RESULTS
Here are the poll results for our favourite OC Restaurants for 2008 (http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/579058). This is the fourth year a list has been done for Orange County to complement Mr. Grub's awesome Ultimate LA restaurants poll.
This year, we had 24 contributors naming 43 restaurants in the OVER $25/person category and 80 for UNDER $25/person.
The votes are tallied from the responses with a rank order from 1 to 5, with 5 points being awarded to the first restaurant on the list and so on.
You'll see some surprises, a couple new places, along with old favourites. Thanks to those who participated!

Interesting that a vegan restaurant topped the list of <$25. Never thought I'd see the day.

Interesting indeed. I wondered about the merits of weighted scoring (since two votes for Restaurant A, each giving a ranking of four [at two points each] would be outweighed by a third voter's #1 vote for Restaurant B [at five points]). I then realised that giving each restaurant one point for every mention would make it a popularity contest.
It would've been nice to see more folks participate for a more accurate reading of OC's best....

First off, Thank You! for taking the time to wrangle / compile the votes for 2008. Great job! :)
Secondly, just to clarify, but were the votes for "Shin Sen Gumi" in the Under $25 category for the same "Shin Sen Gumi" for the Over $25 category? (i.e., Ramen side vs. Yakitori side). If some votes happen to be for the Yakitori side but placed in the Under $25 category, perhaps they should be combined w/ the Over $25 votes? (like what was done in the L.A. 2008 Voting Thread.)
Definitely some interesting results and a helpful resource. Thanks.

re Shin Sen Gumi, those votes are separate: some voted it in <$25, some in >$25 and one voter left it in the middle (http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/5790... which I scored in the >$25 since he had already a top five in the <$25 category). I counted the votes as placed by the voter; I did not recategorise anywhere except for Jigsaw's as noted. And I believe yours was the only one that clarified "yakitori" while the others did not.
So, taking your suggestion, here are the new ratings:
