Best bar to watch Philadelphia Eagles in NYC?
I'm looking for a bar somewhere in Manhattan where a lot of Eagles fans gather to watch the game. Not looking for a college/frat scene. I like good beer and good food, and don't mind paying for it. I've done some poking around on the web and found Wogies, Town Tavern, Black Finn, and Merrion Square. Not sure if any of these are worth it. Thanks for your help.
Definitely go to Shortys on 9th Avenue (41/42). This place is very unassuming, not frat party like, but not trendy or trying to be something it's not. It's great cheesesteaks and other food. Try the Roast Pork it's amazing and italian fries. Good flowing beer and great atmosphere. They are philly based as the owner is philly guy. Check out for sure.
Wogies is great, but small...you have to get there early to get a seat. Great cheesesteaks though! I watch at Town Tavern normally, it's much bigger. Very fratty during the week, but on Sunday is filled with Eagles fans only. They play the fight song after every good play/touchdown/for fun. Make a reservation in advance if you want a table, but tons of people stand also. Go Birds!
Interesting question... the only bar that I know of that's specifically a Philly bar is Wogies. It's a decent place (some love their cheesesteaks, i think they're only okay), but it's TINY.
Town Tavern has always seemed very fratty to me. I didn't know it was a philly bar. I have no opinion either way on Merion Square or Black Finn (E53rd st?).
I was told by a bartender two years ago at Central Bar, on E9th between 3rd and 4th ave, that one of the owners is from Philly, so they always show Eagles games with the sound on, while other games are on mute.
Most bars you'd go to this Sunday will probably have an 80/20 mix of Giants/Eagles fans anyway.
