chicken and dumplings

So long as we have a southern theme going here on the board - does anyone know where a southern girl can get some decent chicken and dumplings? I haven't been able to find it anywhere.

Or - chicken fried steak (I think Dixie Kitchen might have it - I'm going to check this weekend)? I've tried Stanley's and was sadly disappointed. You know it's not going to be right when the gravy is YELLOW.

  1. Perhaps Next will feature this delicacy in 2015!

    1. I'm pretty sure Big Jones has chicken and dumplings (assuming the OP or anyone else is still looking after all these years).

      1. Really, I do know what you mean by chicken and dumplings---I grew up with the cooking of a Southern-derived great-grandmother, and I've got her recipes. But until the real thing comes along, here is a quick-and-dirty substitute: buy a box of frozen pierogies, the kind filled with mashed potato. Dump them into a deep baking dish with a couple of boneless skinless chicken breasts cut into chunks. Pour in chicken broth (from a carton is fine) to cover the pierogies and chicken and seal the top with aluminum foil so the dish is as air-tight as you can get it. Bake at 350* for an hour and a half.
