Where did White Lilac Tearoom go (Stratford, CT)?

kattyeyes Jan 7, 2009 07:46 AM

Does anyone know what happened to the folks who ran the White Lilac Tearoom in Stratford? I only made it there a handful of times before I learned it had closed in late 2006(?). Their food was fab and it was a very cozy setting. Would love to know if any of the treats I loved there are now available elsewhere. So glad at least we picked up their cookbook before the doors closed!

Just wanted to update that yet another Italian restaurant has gone in where White Lilac and then Ciao was--Rivenova.

I've asked about it on the Tristate board to see if anyone has been yet.

Appreciate the update, cheereo. It's just so sad--as though there is a shortage of Italian restaurants in the state of Connecticut. :( There is clearly a shortage of tearooms...wish something similar had slid into that spot instead. White Lilac was so worth the ride for me as nothing like it exists in my neck of the woods. In contrast, we have more Italian than you can shake a stick at. ;) Oh, well. Best of luck, Rivenova!

I think I went a long, long time ago. Have you been recently or do you know someone who has?

Nope, that's why I asked. Was wondering if it was any good.

I had a great visit there in October, but they closed at the end of 2009. They'd been looking for a buyer, but no luck. Sad.

Alas, M-Bellish closed a month or so ago, too. :( I have a neighboring business, and am very sorry to see them go

I was just doing a search to see if they had relocated somewhere else. I was only able to go there twice before they closed and the food was amazing.. if you find out any information on where the owners might have gone please pass along.

Does anyone know of any other good places to eat in Stratford or Trumbull? I'm new to the area and could use some suggestions :)

I was so excited to see your post, thinking maybe you knew. I, too, only got there a handful of times before they closed and agree the food was amazing. Does anyone out there know where these folks may have relocated? Surely, they landed somewhere and I would love to find them. All I have left are memories and my White Lilac Tearoom cookbook. ;(

Bad news, kat- my employee reports that Mary is an administrator at a cooking school now.
I just asked her again when I saw this post.

Oh, that is truly sad news. Though I hope Mary is happy in her current role, as you can see, she is very much missed. Thanks for the update, JenJen.

Someone who works for me used to work there- I'll ask her and report back. Have you tried M-bellish in Devon?

Thank you kindly! I did try M-bellish for tea and scones with clotted cream and apple butter...but only went for afternoon snack/tea, not lunch.
