Lunch at a bar near the Rose Bowl?

hyacinthgirl Jan 6, 2009 01:40 PM

Hello everyone,
My brother is coming into town and wants to go check out the flea market at the Rose Bowl this Sunday.
It turns out that there's also a very important football game we're going to have to check in at after early morning shopping (go Eagles!).

I'm not very familiar with Pasadena, does anyone have any suggestions for a good lunch/watch the game spot near the stadium?
One additional issue is that my brother is a vegetarian, so if there's a pub that has something other than a good burger, that would be best.
Thanks!

There is nothing close to the stadium itself, which is located in the Arroyo Seco, and is surrounded by a residential area and parkland. The closest concentration of dining establishments is in the Old Town area; it will take you about 10 minutes to get there from the Rose Bowl.

I'm having a hard time thinking of a veggie-friendly, game watching spot in Old Town. Maybe the bar at La Grande Orange, which is just a bit south of Old Town?

Other possibilities are Lucky Baldwin's and Twin Palms. The food isn't amazing at either, but the drinks are fine.

The places that came into my mind have been mentioned-La Grande Orange, Lucky Baldwin's, and Barney's Beanery. I went the Lucky Baldwin's with a vegetarian friend and she was pretty satisfied.

        Barney's Beanery!!!

Can't go wrong with them. They have a crazy burger menu! Garden burger and a Black Bean burger. I know you said other than a good burger but there burgers are amazing!!

Other then burgers, they still have amzing chilli, pasta, pizza, mexican etc..... This place is my favorite bar to go to to eat, have a beer and watch the games!!

There used to be a restaurant at Brookside Park overlooking the golf course and spitting distance from the Rose Bowl. I used to sit outside for b'fast after a jog and it was a very pleasant, old school atmosphere. I wouldn't go out my way for a meal there, but they seem to have decent burgers, sandwiches, etc. I know they have a bar w/indoor dining and I'd assume there's a TV.

Actually I love the Brookside restaurant. Too late for the original poster, but I recommend it. They have wonderful fresh homemade thick sliced bread. Their breakfast entrees and sandwiches are excellent, and though I have not tried their dinner style entrees, there is a good selection.

PLUS -- the service is always really really great. And we're lacking for places with a view up this way, and this view can't be beat!

(There are lots of TVs with the volume down, and the full bar . . . )

Bar Celona shows games and has better than average bar food. Some things are even good and definitely more than burgers.
