Does this exist - seeking good wine/prix fixe dinner

Looking for a place for dinner next thursday for me and my hubby for bday - seeking a great prix fix wine dinner that doesn't cost a fortune - and is generous with wine. Can be a neighborhood place, or something more sceney. Midtown or below - brooklyn too.

  1. How much are you interested in spending? For Brooklyn, you'll want to post on the Outer Boroughs board.

    1. Well, it USED to be a relative bargain... I was going to suggest the Kitchen Counter at the Beacon. You mentioned Thursday, so that's what made me think of it. When I went, it was only $65 per person, including wine matching. It's now $98. And, of course, that doesn't include tax and 20% gratuity. Just in case you don't find that daunting, here's a sample of their menu from this Fall:

Reservations are crucial, since the counter only seats 6 and it's only done on Thursday evenings.

        $100 and below is doable...thanks.
The Kitchen Counter looks delish - do you feel that they were generous with wine and do you you get allllll those courses? some must be choices, no?
        Thank you!!

It really WAS delish. They were generous with the wines, and the young sommelier hung around quite a lot to discuss them. The courses are all pretty small servings, so it's not as daunting as it appears. To my recollection, *everything* is served to everyone. I don't remember chooosing any one dish over another.

      2. Savoy NY has a 4 course with wine for $55
also a free bottle of wine with dinner next week

        1. If you can do Fri-Sun instead of Thursday, check out the wine dinner at Malone & Porcelli. For $75, you get appetizer/entree/dessert, and all the wine you can drink from 4 choices including Champagne. The menu is standard, with good steaks, and man do they pour that wine freely. I've gone a few times with groups of 8-12 and I don't think I even ever remember eating dessert. Really one of the best deals in NYC.
