Summer Street Update

louuuuu Jan 6, 2009 07:02 AM

Sign up on old Hacienda space: Buffalo Wild Wings. First franchise on Summer Street. Tho I thought Hacienda was awful Mex (and worse Argentinian), this still a downgrade. Probably will appeal to families and date night at the Majestic.

Coramandel (nee Daksin) renamed, remodeled and open. (methinks Best Indian in Stamford.)

Speaking of which, new Indian coming to old Ocean 211 space... making three within half block. (Feels a little like London.)

Still no action on Barcelona. Unofficially won't happen in this economy.

Not sure if I mentioned this before...can't remember. We were at the Barcelona in New Haven last month and asked the MD if they had halted plans to open the Stamford branch. He said that they had a problem with the construction company and had hired a new one but that they were absolutely moving ahead. Time will tell I guess!

Amazing that a restaurant may open that jfood wished for the food at hacienda. What can you do.

He also had a great time at Barcelona in SONO on Saturday night. Food was excellent although the wait staff was more concerned with chatting amongst themselves than assisting the customer. It will be a good addition to the "T".

I just noticed Coromandel as well. Dakshin and it's predecessor (another indian resto) were just OK. But what is it about that corner? Three India restaurants in that same location over the past 6 years.

I assume this coramandel is the sister restaurant to the Darien/New Rochelle ones? Similar quality? I've never been but have heard it's very good.

Have you been to Tawa? I've also heard good things about it, but haven't yet tried. It's at that maze of streets near Radio Shack where Summer starts, Bedford ends, and Long Ridge and High Ridge all convene. I wonder how it compares to Coromandel...

I'm surprised Hacienda stayed open so long, frankly. I guess with Houlihan's around the corner, a buffalo wild wings type place was inevitable. SBC in comparison is becoming a quaint neighborhood joint... Actually, I quite like SBC for what it is...

It drives me crazy that there is no decent Mexican restaurant in the area. Hacienda used to be good years ago but went downhill fast

Yes, when Dom Emilio ran it (as well as places in Mamaroneck and Larchmont) the place was solid, tho no spills and thrills. Sadly, the best Mexican in town is served by Alex and Carlos from their Taco Truck, now on hiatus, at Jackie Robinson Park.

note bene: Daksin was also the sister of Coromandel. (Neither can match Bengal Tiger in While Plains.) It will be interesting to see what opens at 211.

And Sibeats, that's encouraging news about Barcelona. My source was a commercial real estate guy... who hopefully was wrong. The addition of Barcelona to Summer would more than cancel out the subtraction of Buffalo Wild Wings

I like Tawa a lot. It just so happens that they are the same people who are going into the Ocean 211 space. Last I heard it was supposed to be more upscale than the others.

not much if an upgrade from hacienda....but may be a better alternative to the gross SBC.
as for barcelona, was at greenwich barcelona 3 weeks ago (who just opened or is about to open an expanded party space) the waiter said barcelona stamford will open end january.... sounded positive...?

            According to the Advocate (http://www.stamfordadvocate.com/ci_11...)
a new Mexican (Mary Ann's Mexican")is going into the old Tat's Chinese Buffet. They have others in PC and the City. That's the good news. The bad is that the Manhattan iteration is in a thread "worst ethnic restaurant in the city." How about PC?

(can it be as bad as Hacienda????

            )

Article also quotes Tom Rich that Barcelona on track for the old Zinc.

Actually the Advocate piece is puffery for Wild Wings.

Mary Ann's in PC is terrible. What a bummer. But good news about Barcelona, for sure.

Too much curry in one block radius, need some other ethnic restaurants.

Without using quite those words....I agree 3 indian joints within 50 feet of each other is excessive. I miss 211.

Got to get to the smell of new things, like some Africian or Hawiian, Soul Food, Austrian, German, just not the same old stuff. Also a great tea and bakery shop would be lovely.
