Seeking a clean, well lit place... to study and work [San Francisco]

I am pretty sure that someone must have asked this before, but I was wondering if anyone could recommend coffee shops to work in. I've been to ritual a few times, but would like to branch out. I live in Hayes Valley, but am willing to travel for a good work experience. As for what I think are pre-requisites great coffee, power and wi-fi come to mind. Other than that, good food is nice. Cute people does not hurt. Other co-workers are nice as well. Anyway, thanks for your time, and I hope to hear from you.

  1. I write in cafes a ton and live in the Upper Market area, so the search is close to my heart and close to your location. As far as my top picks...

The Cafe at Cafe du Nord just opened. Free fast wifi and Ritual coffee. It's a pretty space, clean and well lit; the closest to where you live.

Coffee Bar on Mariposa has lots of followers. Better pastries than any of the others, but I don't think the sandwiches/salads are very good. Coffee quality depends on who is making it.

Sugarlump on 24th has beautiful modern furniture and nice lighting. I haven't tried the coffee here, only tea.

    2. If you ride the MUNI trolley lines, come out to West Portal and go to The Greenhouse. It's a friendly place with great coffee, free wi-fi, comfortable places to sit, a relaxed attitude, and what looks like decent coffeeshop food. If you take the L, walk two blocks down and it's on the left. If you take the K or the M, get off at the first stop after West Portal station and you are just about in front. See my review (under the name Spike S) on Yelp. It looks like everyone else loves it too, at least on Yelp.

I just wanted to bring this to the top, to see if anyone else had any good recommendations. I need to do some serious studying, and the space makes a huge difference, so please let me know you favorite spot.

Cafe Que Tal has all your needs, I believe. I love the serenity of the space.

Sad to read that Cafe Que Tal has closed after 19 years in business.
