Need dinner venue for 25-35 people for husband's 40th. Help!
I'm looking in Downtown LA, Hollywood, Mid-town, or Westside area and I'd like to cap the price at $75/person with good food/drink.
I'll need a private space as I'm hoping to do a "roast" complete with toasts and A/V elements that I will provide. It doesn't need to be the best meal he's ever had (esp. since I'm taking him to Melisse for his actual bday), but would like people to get some good eats/drink in a fun and laid-back atmosphere. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thank you!
I have hosted (and attended) dinners in the private room at Toscana in Brentwood. They do a great job. There is even a piano in the room. Food is great and the managers will work with you in planning a menu to fit your budget. . Suggest calling the restaurant and asking to speak with Antonio. He is as nice as can be.
A friend of mine did a very nice birthday bash for her mom at Chez Mimi in Santa Monica.
They have lovely private rooms in the back, there were toasts and a video presentation, the staff was terrific and the food was very nice. I'm pretty sure they came in around your price point.
If you could consider Burbank, downtown right off the 5 freeway, I can recommend Third and Olive. We recently had a holiday party there after our previous choice-of-locale shut down unexpectedly. We panicked, but based on a review here and with few other choices, went with Third and Olive. They pulled off a real nice affair for us and came in under budget, we were thrilled and have already booked for next year. I'm getting ready to post a more thorough review...but they have two private rooms that would handle 35 persons nicely, and on weekend nights there is a singer during the dinner hours doing Sinatra etc. He is very good! The food was delicious and they atmosphere very casual yet upscale, almost like old-school Vegas dining room with lounge attached. Burbank is notorious for its "no smoking anywhere" policy, however the restaurant has a designated smoking area just outside the lounge.
Taix is a standby for this kind of thing... they have nice private rooms of various sizes, and are amenable to A/V stuff. Food is indeed not the best ever, but the wine list is great and it's definitely within your budget.
