Trying to Remember 2 Restaurant Names in the Playa del Carmen Area
Hi -
I was in the Playa del Carmen area a month ago and ate at 2 different restaurants that particularly stood out. I would like to be able to recommend them to others, but I cannot remember the names. If anyone can identifty them based on my vague descriptions, it would be much appreciated:
1. Restaurant in Playa del Carmen on Calle 3 between Avenida 14 and 15, on the north side of the block.
2. (this one's more tricky) A fish/shrimp taco and ceviche restaurant. It was on the main highway between Dos Ojos Cenote and Tulum. More specifically, I think it was between the Tulum ruins and the Tulum town. It was on the southbound side of the street. Covered outdoor seating. There was a salsa bar in the middle of the restaurant.
Thanks!
I am not sure of the location you gave in PDC and I am not too familiar with Tulum, so I can't help with a restaurant name. Might I suggest you address this question to the PDC intimates at Playa info? This is the link: http://www.playa.info/playa-del-carme...

Playa's avenidas are numbered in increments of 5, from 5 to 40, ( so there is no ave. 14) plus an avenida 1 that begins at calle 8, and goes north. Calles are all even numbered, with the single exception of calle 1 sur, the only e-w street between Ave. Juarez and the airport runway. (so there is no calle 3)
Describe the restaurant, or places near to it, and we can be of more help.
I think I know the resto on highway 307 N of Tulum that you speak of; slopes down to the right, with some old trucks and outbuildings? I'm not sure it even has a name, but it has AMAZING tacos. Pulled pork, chicken mole, cheese- stuffed/battered jalapeno, and as you say a wonderful selection of fresh salsas in molcajetes.

Sorry. The restaurant in Playa would be on Calle 2 between Avenida 10 and 15. Still on the north side of the block. There was an outdoor seating area in front, and a bar and some tables inside the restaurant.

The only things I can think of in that area in general are Manne's Biergarten and the Bloody Chicas. The chicas are no more and I don't think that's the right street for Manne's.

Manne's is on 4th st, between 10 &15 aves.

now see if you can remember that easily, perhaps you didn't drink as much beer as I did!

Susie and I lived there years before Manny arrived...Perhaps you are acquainted with Peter and Sabina, also.

I know the fish/shrimp stand of which you speak and it was one of our favorite finds last year. It has a name like Gogo taco (only seen on a plastic banner above the outdoor seating). I usually just direct people the way you described above. Buen provecho!

Hey look, I found more info from my March 08 trip report!
One strong recommendation I would make was the awesome fish/shrimp taco stand called Urge Taquito which is right on highway 307 before you hit the Tulum/Coba traffic light driving toward town. The place has a blue awning and a simple kitchen and maybe 15 tables and chairs. The tacos are cooked to order and you help yourself to the salsa/condiment bar. I can't recommend it highly enough -- a cold cerveza, a few tacos, and supremely friendly people. The only bummer is it was unclear what the opening hours were. We had our hearts set on visiting one day but they were closed. So, they might just be weekends. Well worth keeping your eye out.
