5oth Birthday Dinner Recommendations- Suffern Area

I am from out of state and unfamiliar with the area and am planning on getting my brother-in-law a gift certificate to dinner for his 50th birthday. He is not a picky eater so almost anything will go. I'd like somewhat upscale and nice enough to have that "special" birthday feel. He lives in Montebello, so I would say within a 45 minute drive would be great. I know he is not interested in going into the city. I also know he likes the Hudson House in Nyack but I'd like to try something new. Thanks in advance!!!

  1. I recommend Restaurant X in Congers (or, more upscale and much more expensive, Xaviars in Piermont.)

    1. I recommend Aroma osteria.45 min from Suffern
. I copied my post from last fall.

Solstice, I am indebted to you for your rec of Aroma Osteria.
We went on a fall foliage drive last weekend and stopped for lunch in Wappengers falls.

The restaurant is beautiful, brought to mind a high end Napa Valley experience. I have never been to Italy but my dining companions have and they said it was like a country restaurant there.
All of the food was extraordinary. We had 3 vegetables and an order of mussels as appetizers. The stand out was the peas with prosciutto. We also enjoyed broccoli rabe with garlic and chile pepper and Escarole with garlic and pine nuts. Pasta with diced squash and roasted squash seeds. Special pork chops with apples and cider sauce. Pork chop with vinegar peppers. A grilled ahi tuna. The one desert we shared was a Tartufo Classico "A zabiglione cream center surrounded by hazelnut gelato dusted with pralined hazelnuts.
I have to do the work to figure out how to post pictures. Thanks again solstice444. Lets have a drink sometime.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Although I really can't take all the credit, many people have recommended Aroma here on Chow. :-) I'll have to go back soon myself, I've only been once.
