Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and The Bronx

asian, but non-cantonese, in flushing

going out to dinner tomorrow night and want a relatively nice place; would love to go "mall"ing and get some of the new noodle soups and dumplings but looking for something different, yet sit-down proper. non-cantonese seafood, non-typical chinese. any recs? I think I may just end up with san koo sap san on union; don't really feel like viet, malay, sichuan or hotpot. what else is left? anything else good for a small family dinner?

    1. What about Taiwanese like Red Chopstick? And there used to be a Thai restaurant on Prince Street (though I'm not sure if it's there anymore). If it isn't there, Sripraphai is not very far away, and the decor is definitely nice enough for a small family dinner.

stopped in to red chopstick but ended up at Fu Run; they have a number of set meals it seems but the place smelled of cigarettes for some reason, very unappetizing. the place was packed with lotta medium-sized groups tho, all kinds of alcohol consumption going on and very festive! will hit it up at some point, my only exp. with taiwanese in flushing is at gu-xiang for years and years and at a taiwanese place across from East Pavilion on Kissena (it was good).

          • Been to Fu Ran (Run?) aka Waterfront? On Prince, one block from Spicy and Tasty toward the schoolyard.

A while ago (two or so years) Squid Kun mentioned a Chinese restaurant on Main st. towards the LIE before the hospital that sounded good, that is I didn't try it. To further identify it the menu featured most dishes in two sizes.

                            That's an lwong discovery, actually ... http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/4643...

Haven't heard much about it recently. Anyone been?

I posted about this place sometime ago. Northern Chinese, like Waterfront. Nice salads/kim chee, the lamb w/cumin is better @ the old waterfront. friendly staff and they have many private rooms as places in China have.
