Hi all,
I am looking for a place to go out with a gang of 6 or 7 for my birthday on Saturday. Thing is, we're all grad students and things like Rouge or River Cafe etc etc are not options. Can anyone recommend fun places with good food (of any ethnicity) without everyone having to spend much more than twenty bucks or so?
Thanks!

Have a look at this old thread for some ideas.

Some restos run a prix fixe menu (usually on their slower nights) I'd check the January City Palate for ads...there was an article in it about "Cheap Eats" (a relative term imho) if I come across something I'll let you know...

Otherwise there are a few threads on inexpensive dining... http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/500937 (inexpensive)

If you like seafood I would recommend the Pelican Pier. I had a lovely time when I went there... I had fish and chips and my mom had coconut shrimp with ceasar salad. She said the shrimp were excellent and so was the salad, and I loved my fish and chips. :) It's exactly in the price range you want.

There's a Korean BBQ place on Macleod Trail. It's called Seoul Korea BBQ. They have a set menu for groups of like 2-3 and 6-8 stuff like that and from what I remember, the price is quite decent for the amount of food you get.

          Here is an old thread.

I've recommended Niko's Bistro in Kensington (1241 Kensington RD NW) numerous times for those looking for great pasta (and mains) at very reasonable prices... and I'll recommend them again. Niko's is very busy and I strongly recommend reservations especially for a group of 6 or 7. Don't miss the Penne ala Crema and the fiery calamari is always a great starter.
