Not too expensive - Portland/Clackamas

josephnl Jan 4, 2009 06:31 PM

Looking for a nice comfortable quiet restaurant to take a handicapped elderly relative for dinner somewhere that is either in Clackamas or Portland or in-between. It would be great if it's not too expensive (not more than $75 pp with drinks, wine, tip) but could be a shade more. Prefer not a chain, nor ethnic cuisine...although French or Italian would be ok. Just a nice, quiet, comfortable dependable local spot is what we are looking for. Any recommendations?

Gustav's in Clackamas is exactly what you're looking for. it's German, but just perfect for what you seek.

Gustav's is the one place we always go. You are right...it just about perfect for what I want. I do need a second similar restaurant, but I'd like it to be a bit more upscale...perhaps with tablecloths, napkins, etc. It can be a bit of a drive from Clackamas. You are right on with Gustav's however, it is always pleasant with good food and good value.

OK, not far from Clackamas is Country Cat, on Stark in Montavilla. I haven't been, but I hear good things. It specializes in comfort food. My guess is elderly relative would like it.

Lauro Kitchen http://www.laurokitchen.com/ in SE (relatively more accessible from Clackamas than someplace downtown).

I'm reposting this because we are finally going in about 2-3 weeks. Gustav's is definitely on the "for sure" list. I'm thinking that Lauro will be our second choice for dinner with my elderly cousin. Open for other recs for this dinner. Also, our third night we will want something for me and my love to have a special romantic dinner anywhere in Portland, at any cost, to help us recover for what will be unfortunately a few difficult days with my elderly and handicapped but nevertheless wonderful and much loved cousin.

I would recommend Gino's in Sellwood. Very good classic italian. Great pasta dishes, steaks, fantastic wine list and amazing ceaser salad. Probably right at $75pp, but worth every cent.
