I'm looking for authentic, Liege style, Belgian waffles. Everywhere I go they tend to be those giant waffles snowed under by fruit, whipped cream and ice cream and although good, they're not what I'm looking for. I want to feel like I just got a hot waffle in the wax paper from a stand in Brussels.

Le Petit Belge. Petite Abeille also has them, alongside the fruit-smothered circular kind. And, there's the Wafels & Dinges truck (haven't tried it, so can't vouch for it).

The Wafels & Dinges truck is pretty terrific. I like the Brussels waffel plain. It's crispy on the outside but light on the inside. They have the Liege waffels as well but I haven't gotten one. Here's their website which will tell you their location schedule: http://www.wafelsanddinges.com/index.html .

Just tried the Liege waffle today at Wafels & Dinges and it was the best waffle I've ever had. So warm and buttery on the inside, with a hint of caramel and cinnamon taste to it. I topped it with nutella and powder sugar. Delicious, a little small, but still very, very good. Oh and there coffee was pretty good too!

I agree with Wafels & Dinges. I know they are usually 1-2 times per week on 46th on the northwest corner of 6th. The nutella and strawberries are the best and people swear by their pulled pork sandwich!

Petite Belle on Sullivan just south of Houston. A nice place to sit down and have a coffee, wafftle and or a snack.

Since I'm in NJ, I made it to the Rockn'Joe Coffe House in Caldwell where a poster told me they serve the waffles from the Wafels & Dinges truck. I had a plain Liege style waffle and have to say that the taste was as close to the real thing as I have tasted in a while. The only complaint that I have was in the texture of the waffle I had but that had more to do with the fact that they were re-heating the waffles that they obviously had stored. I guess I'll just have to make a trip in to find the truck after all. Thanks for the responses - my stomach thanks you!!
