My husband's mom makes this thing with chicken breasts where you take a can of cranberry sauce and mix it with an envelope of liptons soup mix and a cup of french dressing. You pour it over and bake. Tim loves this-but I'm not a huge fan. Any ideas for making this recipe a little less trashy?
Your husband loves it and anything else wouldn't be the same. You could make something along those lines that you might like better and call it something else but if he loves this, why not keep it as is? I'm not sure what you could do to make it taste great to you and still make your husband think it's the same thing (home made cranberry sauce, caramelized onions, ketchup, olive oil and vinegar? Doesn't sound good from scratch either).
I am with you. Give the guy what he likes and put your efforts into something more promising. A suggestion. Grilled chicken with a balsamic glaze; oven baked potato with your choice of toppings; fresh spinach sauted in olive oil with garlic, sea salt and fresh cracked black pepper,
Use the idea behind it but replace with fresh items:
1 bag chopped cranberries in lieu of the canned
Chopped onions, shallots, garlic, carrots, celery, sea salt, black pepper for soup mix
Cider vinager with crushed tomatoes, honey, and grapeseed oil for the French dressing
I really don't want to imagine what it tastes likes, but hope this helps
