sugar sweet sunshine closed temporarily or out of business?

My sister went by on Friday and they were closed. Someone passing by said she'd come by every day for a few days and they hadn't been open. Upon peering in the windows, my sister and her friends noticed their chalkboard, which had "Thanks for 5 great years" written on it. I found a thread from last year at about this time when someone thought they were closed, but they were just on vacation... but that chalkboard sign seems a little suspect if they are just on vacation.

Can anyone in the neighborhood confirm or disconfirm? I was really hankering for one of their pistachio cupcakes.

  1. Not that this is any help, but a lot of places have been keeping really weird hours around the holidays this years. I've found a lot of random places closing up shop with no notice about holiday hours.

I really hope that's it. I LOVE SS. Best cupcake in the city IMO. Pistachio with vanilla cream is the best.

    2. When places go out of business, their phone is disconnected. I just called. Their phone has not been disconnected, but nobody picked up. The recorded message says only that they are closed and that hours can be found on the website. They are normally open on Monday. One would think if they were on vacation, the recorded message would say so. Right now, it's a mystery as to where things stand, but it would be crushing if they have closed for good.

Thanks for the detective work. I didn't even think to call. Hmmm....

      2. We can all relax. They're back! :-) As suspected, they were on vacation.

          GREAT NEWS ! !

Everyone there truly deserved a vacation.

I ordered 4 dozen cupcakes from them as a client gift this Christmas.
          YUMMY!
          Huge hit!

            Thank GOD!!!

          2. This thread is making me think I need to try this place. Never been, but it's sounding like I need to. Maybe this Sunday if the weather isn't too bad.

I don't think any of the cupcake flood are need to kind of places at this point, but it's one of the better ones in the city. Don't get too hyped up and expect anything more then just a fine simple cupcake with some original flavors though.

I'll settle for a really good cupcake with a great cup of coffee (hopefully). I enjoy trying places like this that people rave about. Kee's chocolates, the Donut Plant, etc.

the pumpkin trifle and the piggy pie are excellent as well. the former, especially, is not to be missed if it's available when you're there.

... and my fave cupcake is the pistachio with vanilla frosting. OMG. It's GOOD. Trust.

              2. Thanks RGR! I'm so happy it's not closed!

                2. Thank goodness its still open -this is one of my must try cupcake places when I come to NY in March! I can't wait to try their cakes!

                  1. its def open...i got a cupcake today

                    1. We finally made it in to the city today for our first visit to SSS. Wow. We had a Ooey Gooey (?) and a Pistachio. These were the best cupcakes I have ever had. Moist, flavorful with outstanding frosting. We got three more to go for the kids who are coming over tonight. The place was jam packed. The owner (one of them that we spoke with) was really nice. You folks who live near there are very lucky. (not to mention the market around the corner that I would die for to have one like that in Hoboken. Our option within walking distance for fish is the A&P. A huge variety of vegetables, meats, fish, etc., and at way less than I pay here. Maybe I should move...

Made it there too this past Saturday, the 14th.
Long train ride to the LES but it was worth it.

                        BEST CUPCAKE I"VE EVER EATEN.
