Well more like a cheese nook - it's attached to the Foxglove Gallery/CT river store behind Madison Wine shop - there's a little sign in the window that says Madison Cheese.

She has some nice cheeses and prices were pretty good. She let us sample a few things and is keeping tabs of what we liked in a file, she also steered me to a cheese that would work for a foodie gift I needed. It's small but I think it's a good addition to the shoreline.

If you're in the area iI think it's def worth a peek.

Best place to get a wonderful selection of cheeses on the eastern CT Shoreline is FROMAGE in Old Saybrook........now that she moved to the larger store a year or so ago - she has quite a selection of fine foods as well - -worth a stop or trip if you like to browse for your cheeses !!!

I love tasting the new cheeses on her board when I stop in !!

Right on, few. Just stopped in at Fromage for my first time this weekend and was intrigued by the cheese featured on the board outside the store--"Barely Buzzed"--quel fromage--the rind is coated in coffee grinds and lavender. Yummmmmmmmmm! Their blackboard of cheese must have about five columns chock full of all sorts of goodies. Can't wait to go back!

I tried the Barely Buzzed last weekend and it was very unique unlike anything I have had before. A friend purchased some from Manhatten for me. Can't say that I would buy it again, but it was unique.

The selection is substantial and interesting, though not vast (don't think Zabar's). They have had (whole wheels of) some excellent Swiss mountain cheeses, rather hard to come by in the US, but something I like. Most of the standards, a few rarities, and what they have doesn't stay in the case past its pull date (unlike some places in the area that I could mention...).

Dear Chow Hound...

I'm so happy to see this little gem has been spotted. I happened by Madison Cheese over the holiday's while swinging buy the Madison wine shop next door and was pleasantly surprised to see such a diverse and upscale sellection in such a quaint shop. The prices were reasonable and the lady was very friendly and helped me to choose a nice selection while allowing me to taste cheeses until I found several that were scrumptious. My favorite was Cashel Blue, an extrordinarily creamy blue cheese from Ireland! She also has a nice selection of gourmet foods to go along with the cheese. I highly recomend this friendly addition to Madison. Bon Appetite. Monty

I just stopped in to the Madison store because of the great feedback from CH. Nice woman behind the counter, small store....one minor detail...the selection. Nothing that I could not buy at a Stop & Shop or a better stocked Big Y. But again, personality is everything in my opinion and everyone has a dream. I hope that she does well enough to grow and learn that there are many other wonderful cheeses out there. I signed up for emails and look forward to seeing a nice person with a vision succeed.
