Quick Berkshires Trip
A few days in the Berkshires and we decided to try places that we hadn't been to before.
On the advice here on this posting site we had lunch at Once Upon a Table in Stockbridge.
Her clam chowder was full of clams and she said the chowder was delicious.
My Ruebens had about the tenderest pastrami I've ever had.
This place has outstanding lunches!!!.
Add outstanding service to the mix and you can really enjoy a great lunch here.
Dinner on New Year's Day was a bit more difficult with so many places closed.
Our first choice was Dream Away Lodge in Beckett ;a local hangout that is very popular and about which we have heard so many good comments.
When we got there the owner told us that he closed after the New Year's Party on 12/31 but that he will reopen around Valentine'sDay.
We'll be back to try this place again.
Our next choice was Firely in Lenox but the loud rock music and the screaming kids in the bar when we sat at the bar convinced us that we would not find the quiet dinner were were looking for so we left.
Noisy children at a bar and loud rock music are not condusive to a nice evening meal, in our opinion,so we tried the Salmon Run Fish House in Lee.
We'd heard that you get a lot of good food here for the money and that is absolutely true.
The place was packed with people, the music was soft and mellow, and we ate at the bar(our favorite place to eat when dining out).
I had the fried haddaock which was delicious and plentiful.
She had a pasta dish with shrimp and clams.
Both dinners were really good and many, many people we observed were taking doggie bags home so you can imagine how large the portions were and the place was packed with people from the time we got there to the time we left so you can imagine how popular the place is.
The service was excellent as well.
A light lunch at the Sportsmen's Bar ,in Lee ,the next day ( a local favorite hangout) proved really rewarding also.
From the outside the place just looks like any local sports bar but the food(special burgers, soups.ect) are all made from scratch and the portions are very generous also.
Every town should be lucky enough to have such a wonderful place as this in their town!!!!
Now for a big THANK YOU to City Kid for his/her recommendation of Xichohtencatl in Lenox for dinner.
This place is outstanding!!!!
If you're just looking for tacos and burritios this isn't your place.
Every item on the meny is authentic mexican and I hadn't heard of virtually anything on the menu and I love mexican food and I eat mexican food now and then when available.
We just "winged it" for choices and no one in our group was disappointed with anything we got( all we all got different items).
Add margaritas into this mix with fresh lime juice and you have one of the best mexican meals you'll find anywhere---thanks again City Kid!----we were all "tipping our hats" to you for this recc!!!.
We got here at 5:00PM just when they opened and the place filled up completely in about 20 minutes,
When we left the line to get in was till outside the door and the weather was really cold outside.
As we pulled away we could see even more people getting in line outside to wait to eat.
A long waiting line outside in foul weather is a good sign that a restaurants is doing something very right!
Breakfast this morning was at Rose's in Lee.
We had all eaten breakfast here before so we all knew how good items like the "polish scramble"(eggs mixed with polish kiebasa mixed with egg, onions, peppers, and cheese) were and you really get your money's worth here for portions a well.
Not the "gourment" breakfast you might find at Haven but not the high prices of Haven either(LOL).
We'll be back in a couple of weeks to try several other places we haven't tried as yet
Good eating all!
