Soleil - Denver Cherry Creek

We tried Soleil Wine Bar and Grill last night, having never been there before and not asking anyone here if we should. Yes, I know that's a pretty radical concept but I like to live dangerously.

This is a great place! The menu consists of tapas, pizza and entree portion plates. There is a very nice wine list both by the bottle and glass. Well, it does bill itself as a wine bar, after all, so this is not that surprsing.

We had the olive bowl, parmesan frites, bacon wrapped dates, apple & prosciutto salad and paella. All were excellent but the paella was a real stand-out. And, a perfect size plate for sharing with other tapas or could be consumed as an entree by an individual. Nice to know since most paellas are made for two people and priced and portioned accordingly.

A reasonably priced bottle of Portuguese wine accompanined followed by an extra glass of another Portuguese. Dessert was Bourbon chocolate bread pudding with caramel sauce and a couple of espressos. Our server was friendly without being cloying and very wine savvy without being annoying.

Check without tip came to $157. I'll be going back.

For three. Included bottle of wine and two additional glasses of wine plus a shot of Bailey's for one coffee.

No kidding! Always nice to hear about the underrecognized places. Thanks for the tip. I've been craving paella, actually.

We just had dinner at Solera at Colfax & Grape. Paella was on the menu, but none of the five of us happened to order it. Everything else was good tho', including the seared sea scallops -- and that bodes well for other seafood dishes.

Just to clarify, Solera which Claire mentioned and Soleil which this thread was started about are two different restaurants:

I mentioned Solera specifically because Chowmix praised Soleil's paella and Tatamagouche wrote about craving paella. I posted Solera as an option without thinking that the similar names (Soleil Wine Bar & Grill/Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar) could easily be confusing. So thanks, RLM, for clarifying.

I enjoyed a meal there a year or so ago and enjoyed it. I think my friend and I both had a pizza but enjoyed both of them. Service, as I recall, was a bit interesting but I can't say for sure since it was awhile ago.
