1982 Côte-Rôtie, Robert Jasmin (Rhône, France): Decanted right before serving, the wine was a garnet red fading to orange at the rim, clear and clean. Simply put, this wine has seen better days; while not completely dead, it was past its peak and was cracking up. Bummer.

1982 Hermitage “La Chapelle,” Paul Jaboulet Aîne (Rhône, France): I have been lucky enough to have this wine on several occasions, and each time the wine has been nothing short of fantastic! Decanted shortly before serving. Dusty garnet red in color, shading towards brick at the rim; the bouquet is a wonderful blend of meat, leather, blueberry, earth, spice, white pepper, and more; in the mouth, this wine is so flavorful, so complex – each sip reveals a new layer, a new flavor; well balanced, with finely-grained tannins, the finish is incredibly long and tasty. Outstanding!

Cheers,
Jason

I've had the '82 La Chapelle a couple of times and I agree it is a *spectacular* bottle of wine. Good for you! :-D
