MSP: Loose Meat Sandwich

My husband has been watching Roseanne and is enamored with the idea of the loose meat sandwiches that they served in the restaurant they owned....ideas?

  1. Yeah, that show made me want to try loose meat sandwiches, too. I was mildly disappointed when I finally went to a Maid Rite in Des Moines, but it wasn't bad.

But it's an Iowa thing - I don't think there are any Maid Rites in the Twin Cities.

This post mentions The Barn in Brainerd (closer than Iowa):

Here's a Maid-Rite in Hopkins off off Shady Lake Road.

Address: 5757 Sanibel Dr Ste 13, Hopkins, MN 55343-4110
        Phone: (952) 933-3036

Wow! I stand corrected - there *is* a Maid Rite in the Twin Cities.

Bon appetit to your husband, Jill!

When I checked this address in Google Maps it said there was a request put in to remove Maid-Rite from the map on September 23. Is it still open?

I went to that address about a year ago. It's a strip mall and Maid-Rite was not there anymore. It became a pizza or gyro place IIRC.

          2. We also say a sign for Maid Rite while driving up 94 towards Fargo last week. I can't remember exactly where it was but I want to say it was before Albertville.

Kate, there's one in St. Cloud. Is that the one you were thinking of?

Probably - I wasn't sure where we were but it was before the baby woke up and started to scream around Alexandria :)

            2. If you're ever in the Quad Cities (off I-80 on the IL/IA border), you must try the loose meat sandwiches at Ross's. Far better than any Maid Rite.

              1. Not in the Twin Cities proper, but I recall that Dara showcased a Minnesota loose-meat sandwich joint in her Minnesota Monthly round-up of the state's best burgers last summer.

Ah, here's the link: It was the Tender Maid in Austin.
