Asian Markets

A friend is looking for a place to shop for Asian ingredients near her home in Laguna Beach or somewhere along her commute to work in Long Beach along the 73 to the 405/Woodruff exit. I suggested the 99 Ranch Market in Artesia, but she says her trip is long enough without going so far out of her way.

Any suggestions for shopping someplace not too far from the freeway during her daily trip?

  1. Would either of the 99 Ranch Market Irvine locations (there are two listed on their web site) work any better for her?

    Irvine 1
    15333 Culver Dr. #800
    Irvine, CA 92604
    (949) 651-8899

    Irvine 2
    5402 Walnut Ave.
    Irvine, CA 92604
    (949) 552-8899

    1. Off the 405 at Beach (which is north of where the 73 hits the 405) is Sieu Thi Thuan Phat Westminster . It's maybe four blocks north of the exit, on the right side as you head north on Beach, NE corner of McFadden. Large, clean, good selection, the usual abrupt service. If this is her first trip to an Asian market she'll be very shellshocked but that will happen no matter where she goes.

If she wants Japanese ingredients, there is a Mitsuwa and a Marukai in Costa Mesa, both in the triangle made by the 405, 73 and 55 freeways. Marukai requires a (cheap) membership which you can buy on the spot; Mitsuwa does not. There's also a Japanese market in Fountain Valley called Ebisu, right off the 405 at Brookhurst.

      Addresses:

      Mitsuwa Marketplace

      Marukai Market

I'm sure she can find what she needs now. Thanks.
