  1. I still say if someone opens up a good Vietnamese Restaurant in Westchester.

    1. sadly, I know of NO vietnamese restaurants in either Westchester or Fairfield counties of any quality, good or bad. To me, it's one of the great failings of the food scene in this part of the country. There are a whole slew of pan-asian places that sell some vietnamese themed dishes, but I've yet to find a single one worth even the gas it takes to get there. And you certainly won't find a vietnamese dish (let alone Pho) at these places that resembles anything authentic.

I know there are some places in New Jersey, but this side of the Hudson, I don't know of a single one. So, flushing or Manhattan's Chinatown remains the closest place for decent vietnamese.

poughkeepsie too adam, i just posted a link to saigon cafe on the haiku thread...just google it and you'll find it right away. i only went once, many years ago, so i don't remember too much, but it can't be half bad given the owner's intentions! an there's another viet place right around the corner called miss saigon if i'm not mistaken...what's up w/ that?!

      2. BON-I just did a rather down and dirty seach and found the two closest. Much closer thatn the rather good one I found this summer in Boothbay,ME!

If you don't mind crossing the river into Rockland County, there's always The Vietnam in Spring Valley. You'll find lots of recommendations for it if you do a search on this board. Here's their website:

thanks for the heads up jrblack...it's only 20 miles from my house too, although it sucks to have to pay the tz toll. have you been there before? if so, what do you like and/or dislike? the menu sure sounds good...

oh man that vietnamese bakery in boothbay harbor is awesome isn't it?! i only went once since i only lived in bbay not even a month before moving to rockland instead, but that place is a chowhounder's dream. and in such a non-ethnic place too!

            1. There is a thai/vietnamese restaurant in Westport called Pho Mekong, on US Post Road, between exits 18 and 19. I have no idea if it's any good or not - would like to try it as I too am looking for a good vietnamese place. If anyone has been, how is it?

There is a vietnamese place that several of my co-workers all recommend called Pot-au-Pho located in New Haven, just north of Fairfield county line. It's a little far from Westchester but if you live in Fairfield county, then it's not too bad of a drive.
