Recommendations - US1 from Brevard to Dade?
My husband and I are going from Brevard (where we live) down Hollywood to the Hard Rock for a concert. We are leaving the day after tomorrow so we really don't have a lot of time to research and plan, but we would very much like to get the most out of our trip and would LOOOVE to find some interesting places to stop along the way.
We're thinking we'll probably take US 1 at least most of the way (unless someone knows a more interesting route?)......
Does anyone have recommendations for any cool little places along the way? We don't mind taking a detour or two if it's worth our while...... we're all into cool little Mom & Pop places, diners, hole-in -the-wall type stuff.......? Or maybe someone knows of an awesome ice cream or hot dog stand? Any campy, off-beat little things to see would be great to know about too.
Thanks so much in advance for any advice!
If you are in the mood for wings once you hit Palm Beach County, the Thirsty Turtle at US1 and Donald Ross Road (SW corner) in Juno Beach is amazing. Their wings are VERY garlicky and have a unique and extremely tasty hot-and-sweet flavor. It's basically a sports bar but it's a fun local hangout.
I also second the Jaxson's Ice Cream recommendation.
Between Vero Beach (Indian River County) and Ft. Pierce (St. Lucie County), on the East side of US1 is my favorite Florida rib joint, Norris's [yeah, I think they misspelled their own name]. I'll be enjoying some baby backs there this very weekend myself! In fact, it may end up being my NYE dinner tonight.
Just North of Airport Rd.
3080 N US Hwy #1
Fort Pierce, FL
On U.S. 1 and Sterling Rd. (approx. 30 mins directly east of the Hard Rock) is Jaxson's Ice Cream Parlor. http://www.jaxsonsicecream.com/ It is a really neat place and yummy too- definitely an experience. :)
Also, on Griffin (one street north of Sterling) a bit west of I-95 is The Field, an authentic Irish Pub. http://www.thefieldirishpubdania.com/ It is good food and I know the guys who play on the weekend... incredible. It's kinda like stepping into a leprechaun house and listening to good irish tunes. If you are into that kinda thing, The Field is the best I've seen in a while...
Have fun on your trip!
