TN: Two Pinot Noirs for our Chanukah Party
2007 Weingut Nelles Spätburgunder trocken, Qualitätswein, AP No. 1 907 869 02 08 (Ahr, Germany): Pinot Noir has radically changed in the past – what? 30-40 years? Gone are the days when California couldn’t make a decent Pint Noir, and gone are the days when people say, “Why bother?” when it comes to Spätburgunder in Germany. Bright ruby in color, nice cherry notes in the bouquet, and true “cold” Pinot Noir aromas and flavors. I don’t know how else to explain it – think early Oregon Pinots, or perhaps from the Okanagan. It’s actually quite delicious. (13.5% abv)
2005 Bourgogne, Méo-Camuzet Frères et Sœurs (Burgundy, France): Deep ruby-garnet in color, clear at the rim, clean and bright; the bouquet is classic Burgundy, with cherry, raspberry, rose petal, violets, and more; round, full, and supple on the palate, with generous flavors and layered complexity; still quite young, but very expressive. For a “simple” little Burgundy, there’s nothing simple about this. Excellent. (13% abv)
Cheers,
Jason
