I'll be traveling to Durban, down the Garden Route and then spending about 5 days in Cape Town. I'm a very healthy eater and due to some dietary concerns, I need to limit my intake of butter, oil, red meat, cheese and carbs (no corn, I know a staple in SA). For those of you have have traveled or lived there, have you found most restaurants to have leaf-based salads or healthy protein/veggies based dishes? I'm sure in Cape Town I won't have many problems, but the little places along the Garden Route I'm a little worried about . In restaurants/cafes in the bigger cities have you found the menus to be health conscious? Any recommendations of cafes/restaurants (not too pricey) to hit up while there that focus on healthy cuisines (not necessarily vegetarian because I definitely eat tons of fish and chicken)?
