Celebrating final year of 20's with scotch

I want to give my boyfriend a bottle of scotch for his birthday and I'm looking to spend around $60-70. I know he likes Ardbeg, Lagavulin and Laphraoig, and I'm wondering if I should get him something in that vein or get him something new to try (maybe something less peaty)? I've only just begun to get into scotch but I can already tell that it's incredibly subjective...and incredibly confusing, so any help is greatly appreciated!

  1. It sounds like he's a big peat head, in which case, I'd probably keep in line with that. Based on those three, if you wanted to branch out, I 'd go for a Talisker. The 18 year old is excellent and right around your price range.

You could also go for a Bowmore or Bruichladdich's Peat series.

I love Bowmore, but FYI, the Bowmore 17 is terrible. I don't know what the deal is with it and was confused until I saw someone else say the same thing online (LAwhiskeysociety, I think it was). Was excited to buy a bottle but can't drink it. So if you do go Bowmore, go 15 or 18.
