When did New Green Bo become Nice Green Bo?

I swung by Mei Lei Wah for some char shiu bao the other night and noticed a slight change in the name of new green bo. They covered up the word NEW with the word NICE in the same color and font. Has anyone tried this place recently? Has it changed?

  1. The change happened quite a while ago, maybe as long as 2 years ago? It hasn't changed at all, It's still lousy.

    1. I haven't patronized it in several years, but my understanding is that they changed their name on their 10th anniversary of opening, figuring that they were no longer new.

Few, if any, established businesses would change a well-known name just to mark an anniversary. Generally there's a slight change in ownership - a partner leaves, a new one buys in - rewarded, not coincidentally, by tax- or debt-related advantages. I have no specific knowledge of the case of New/Nice Green Bo, but that's a common practice.

But, again, my understanding is that this one did, for that reason. If you find out information to the contrary, by all means post it.

The woman I spoke to there some time ago gave the same reason for the name change (10th anniversary) but I think squid is right. One major reason businesses change their name is to avoid being liable for any debts incurred by the previous owners.

I don't doubt that the anniversary could have been one reason for the name change, as the public version has it. I'm just observing that that sort of thing is almost never the only reason, or the main reason. If you find out information establishing that it was in this case, by all means post it. ;)

assumptions based on logic fall flat when the facts contradict the logic.

        2. I was there once since the name changed.
I had been going there for many years. Even years ago when it was Say Eng Look at a different location.

There was a big drop off in quality on this last visit.
I don't think that I will be going back.
