Dining at Bar in Santa Barbara

I will be in Santa Barbara from Boston on a business trip by myself and am looking to dine at a resturant with a nice bar. Preferably non -ethnic with an emphasis on steak or seafood. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I did hit up Chase and was very happy with everything from food to the room and bar. Now just have to decide on the Hungry Cat or the pier for tonight. Thanks again!

Outstanding Shamrock22...hope you had the calamari piccata..great place to eat and drink...Xmas decorations are over the top.
Local Lobster if still in season are yummy at the SB pier..
You should at least have a drink at Plow and Angel at the stunning San Ysidro Ranch..Biltmore is gorgeous for a sunset drink on the water too.

Definitely stop by the Hungry Cat downtown. Sit AT the bar. Best seat in the house, as the kitchen/line is also smack dab in front of you. Menu is mostly seafood. Raw bar items, daily specials, and the best hand made cocktails are top notch. A great place to dine alone, the bar and kitchen staff are quite friendly. You mentioned non ethnic, but if you enjoy sushi, just around the corner is Arigato, another fantastic place to stop for dinner. Sit at the sushi bar, sip some sake and enjoy.

Both restaurants serve dinner only, but Hungry Cat serves a great brunch on Sat & Sun if you're around.

If you have a free lunch hour and want to eat locally on the wharf, stop by Santa Barbara
Shellfish Authority, end of the pier. All other restaurants on the pier should be avoided at all costs. They suck. SBSA has a great little 'bar' inside, perfect for sipping a Santa Barbara Blonde and watching your meal being prepared again on a bar-side line. Food is simple, but real and fresh. Take advantage of any local fresh catch, prawns, scallops, oysters, crab and lobster. Clam chowder is decently good.

Agree, sitting at the bar at the Hungry Cat is great and the best way to avoid its really awful, pushy and arrogant wait staff. Get the Pub Burger for one of the best in town -- the best!

There is no question San Ysidro Ranch....my home away from home.
The bar at Plow and Angel is incredible.
If you like mountains and fresh air and excellent service you will love this wonderful place..

Why, thank you Beach Chick! I think you do too...I love Chase also and now I'm going to have to try that Calamari Piccata with fettucini alfredo you've mentioned. Thanks for the recommendation. That sounds good right about now :) Chase has been around a long, long time and it's always consistently good which is a sure bet it'll be around for another 20 years. As you say...the bar is always a wonderful time.
I don't know how it gets any better than San Ysidro Ranch. For me it's perfect.

We love the Chase sitting at the bar and they have the BEST calamari piccata with fettucini alfredo known to man..it's on State street and always a good time.
San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito at Plow and Angel is pretty damn awesome too!
Glbtr is very active from SB on this site and will hopefully chime in..
