SoCal to Orlando roadtrip on I-10--Good Eats??

  • 3

SoCal native leaving 12/29 for Orlando on my first long road trip to start first real job after college!!!

Traveling on I-10 through Phoenix, El Paso, San Antonio(New Years Eve), Lafayette, New Orleans(3 nights), Destin & Orlando (arrive 1/7/08) and everything in between.

Please help with recs for quality, local, unique eats of any kind. I want to experience the full flavor of my trip but I'm on a starving student's budget so low price, super good taste is the goal!!

I'll be checking in daily from the road so please keep those ideas coming until the 7th.

Wish me luck!!!

P.S. Anyone know of any cool, FREE brewery, winery, factory type tours along the way???

  1. Although we didn't stop on our trip a couple of years ago, my friend had said that the Cattleman's Steakhouse in El Paso was a place to eat at. We ate at several Mexican places along the River Walk in San Antonio, but I don't remember the names, but all had really good food and margaritas.

    1. HI-

This poster has posted separate queries to the Southwest, Texas, New Orleans and South boards so if you have chow tips for those areas, rather than California, please post on those.

      Thanks!

      1. The 10 technically goes north of Destin, but you can get Hwy 98 in
Pensacola and go along the Gulf Coast . Then, if you have time, go down Scenic 30-A for some great food. Old Florida Fish House and Fish Out of Water have great sushi. Flamingo Joe's in Panama City has the best fish sandwich, burger, and veggie burger. After you get through Panama City, head north to the 10. The only catch is that several restaurants close during the winter months due to lack of business.
