Help! Restaurant about an hour from NYC

Hi,
My father in law is in town and we'd like to take a ride outside the city for a late lunch - wanted to see if anyone knows a good restaurant about an hour or so away from NYC - any type of food works, but preferably not ridiculously expensive.

Thanks!
C

How about Restaurant 121 in North Salem, NY. Nice drive. Big fireplace. Great food. Doesn't take reservations for parties less than 6, though.

the restaurant at rowayton seafood gets my vote. cozy dining spot on the banks of the five mile river. sit in front of the fireplace, slurp a few oysters, maybe indulge in a lobster roll. take exit 12 on I95 in connecticut.

      here's a link: http://www.rowaytonseafood.com/home.html

Take NJ Transit to Westfield, NJ you will find great places to eat as well as lots of shopping. Hope for good weather because it's a great walking town.

This may be a little too late for today, but if works for tomorrow or for future reference, Restaurant X in Congers or any of Peter Kelly restaurants are worth the drive out of Manhattan for a leisurely meal in a country setting..

The Sunday Brunch @ X is a great deal for $38 per person with Champagne beverage.

And on the same note, X2O, another Peter Kelly restaurant is in Yonkers, which, depending on traffic, could be an hour! The views up and down the Hudson are seriously wonderful, and transporting. You will feel as if you are away.

Why drive? Just take a Metro North train to the Yonkers station & X2O is directly in back of the station.

Excellent real-deal Sichuan food at Chengdu 1 in Cedar Grove, NJ...just outside of Montclair. Casual, moderately priced.
Excellent Greek food at Stamna Taverna on Broad Street in Bloomfield NJ (less than a mile off the Garden State Parkway)...also casual and moderately priced.
            Both are BYO.
