I've started to compile a list of various specials and prix-fixe menus on tap for New Years. Most restaurants will be open as normal, but it looks like that quite a few are offering these set menus, typically around $50/person.

It will be especially interesting to see the dinner menu at Teardrop Lounge, as one doesn't typically think of it in terms of its food. They've got as one of their courses a lavender-cured foie gras, and it's paired with an armagnac cocktail. I know on a recent trip there a few weeks ago that their cocktail menu even had a foie-infused armagnac cocktail, and so it looks like they've been doing some experimenting both in the kitchen as well as behind the bar.

Pok Pok's got a great dish as one of their courses, the kaeng hung leh curry. This is one of the best dishes at Aiyara Thai in Eugene (really, Springfield) and so I'm excited to see it here in Portland.

And if I had the money to spend, I would be all about Beast's $225/person prix-fixe menu, whose price is probably reflective of the wines they're pairing with each course I'm sure. I've actually never eaten there, but man their menu (changes weekly) always looks awesome.

I'm heading to Tanuki for New Years, but one of Portland's other izakayas, Biwa, looks like it's doing some interesting stuff for New Years as well; I'm definitely curious to see if toshikoshi soba sticks around on the menu in the days afterward, as I've never had it.

I think getting snowed in is giving me cabin fever, and I'm definitely itching to go out with a bang on New Years. Anyone else have any plans?
