Best Burgers in Winston-Salem, NC

I'm visiting my mom in W-S and looking for a place to get a great burger for my boyfriend's birthday. Preferably something not a chain... All suggestions are greatly appreciated!

My Mom lives in Winston as well. We eat at River Birch often and I've never been disappointed. I have had a hamburger there. I don't remember it specifically so I can't say it was "the best", but I only have good memories of that restaurant. I will say that I've heard rave reviews of Milners but have never eaten there. Thanks for the reminder!

Milner's on Stratford Road does an excellent pimento cheese burger.

I will second and third Milner's. River Birch also does a pimento one but I don't think there was enough char the one time I had their burger. Village tavern i would skip for the burger. Milner's will also give you the chance to have better apps than most other places

Two local non-chain restaurants you can try are the Village Tavern (2 locations...I prefer the one in Reynolda Village.) or the River Birch Lodge on Robinhood Road. River Birch does a great bison burger in addition to the more traditional beef.
