I've been to Rasika now a couple of times. Each time I have enjoyed the food, but have had terrible service. They aren't rude but inefficient, slow and don't really pay attention. Both times I was there they were not overly busy, but for some reason it took them forever to get us our drinks and second rounds. The food took a long time for uncomplicated dishes and was spaced our oddly. There seems to be an indifference sometimes with the servers--or service. The food is pretty good but I find you get less for your money here than other nice places in the neighborhood.

Has others experienced this here? Are other restaurants in this group (like 701 and Ardeo) better in the service area and value for money?

Maybe I go to the same kind of Indian restaurants that you go to, but I can describe the service at more than one (and I've never been to Raskika's) similar to your description. Maybe that's just the way they are, at least in a certain range of the scale between hole-in-the-wall (where you expect service like "at home") and first class.

That is funny because my fiance and I have had the best service there of any DC restaurant, and we have eaten at a lot of nice places in the area. Our food came out perfectly timed, the server checked on us often, refilled our wine appropriately, folded the napkins if we left the table, very nice, offer great suggestions when asked for them. On our first time the server pointed out which dishes were really hot and which more mild and what were considered house specialties. We have found the waiters there above stellar. Which is good because DC doesn't tend to have great service.

The bartender at the main bar at 701 who is there on weekends is so nice we have had great service at the bar there. It is a little quieter so you would probably get better service.

Same here! The server made excellent recommendations, food came out perfectly timed, let us custom-make our drinks via the bar, and allowed us to have the pre-theater price fixe menu even though it was a few minutes after the cut-off time.

Rasika was my favorite restaurant visit in 2008 (and I went there for my birthday). Maybe you just have bad luck, or you're perceiving things... I dunno.
