I'm coming to SF this Saturday and have decided on Waterbar for lunch. ( I know, I know. It's another tourist joint from Pat Kuleto. But consider Saturday lunch on the Embarcadero -- no Boulevard, no One Market, no Chaya, etc. Not many choices.). I'm staying at the Hotel Vitale and want to eat via walking. FYI, I'm going to Slanted Door for lunch on Sunday.

Anyway, for any Chowhounds who have been to Waterbar -- your recommendations? I love oysters, Dungeness, petrale sole, etc.. Your suggestions?

Thanks for your recommendations.

XY: Yes I have for this visit. Can you tell me about La Mar -- location, cuisine (Peruvian seafood?), atmosphere, price, etc.? I have not been there.

Thanks very much.

I have yet to go there to eat myself, but it's the only American venture of Gaston Acuria, Peru's culinary superstar and seems to be the hottest table in town. A little Googling will tell you plenty about Acuria and his restaurants. It's noted for ceviche in many manifestations (but has cooked foods as well) and Pisco drinks. If nothing else, it'll give you bragging rights similar to visiting an outpost of Joel Robuchon or Jean-Georges Vongerichten, though at a less painful price.

It's located just a couple of hundred yards north of the Ferry Building, and is mammoth and somewhat industrial looking.

Menupages has its menu. Ceviches are under $20, and half-orders under $10
