On my way to San Fran from 02/15 through 02/19 and am currently putting together my foodie agenda. Called Ad Hoc for Wednesday reserves (02/18) after doing the math on when they're likely to serve the fried chicken and I was informed that Ad Hoc is closed on Tue/Wed during the winter.....so much for my math!

Was wondering if anyone knew the most likely day for the chicken during the winter months? Mondays??

Doing TFL on 02/17 (Tuesday) and Danko on 02/15, so if not Ad Hoc on 02/16 does anyone else (aside from Chez Panisse) do a similar "one-size-fits-all-family style" type dinner like Ad Hoc?

Are you looking for "upscale" chicken, or can you go "down market" for a fun meal? If so, try Goood Frikin Chicken in San Francisco, followed by a walk over to San Francisco's best ice cream shop, Mitchell's. You could also try The Front Porch. I've never been, but it gets some excellent reviews.

to clarify, the chicken at Good Frikin chicken is not fried. It is rotisserie, and roasted (two versions). For that matter, I don't think it is that good. (and not a family style place either).

I "think" they'll be doing fried chicken on Monday Feb 9 and 23rd. Someone on this board recently raved about the fried chicken at BarbersQue in Napa for Sundays. I have not been there yet.

I haven't heard they'll be closed the two nights during the week which would be a bummer. They sometimes do special chicken nights as well (we're going tonight, Christmas Eve, for fried chicken). I would say check after New Year's (they post the menu daily or you can get on their email list) and do the math then once all the holidays have passed. It is our favorite restaurant in the valley.

Don't forget to grab a good burger while here - personal favorites - Solbar at the Solage Resort in Calistoga, Taylor's Refresher (St. Helena is original, but they have one in Napa and one in SF at the Ferry Building) and Andy's Cafe (located in a carwash in Napa at First Street off Highway 29). If you're a foodie, be sure and hit the San Francisco Ferry Building Terminal (great food shops) or it's smaller cousin (Oxbow Public Market) in Napa which was done by the same developer.

I don't eat beef, hence no burger and the need to make sure I'm going to Ad Hoc on a night w/o a beef main. :-)

The Ferry Building is absolutely on the list.

Ad Hoc is indeed closed on Tue/Wed in Feb, I called to make certain.
