Great 6-pack beer selection in W. Phila.?

CPaul Dec 23, 2008 08:10 AM

Inquiring on behalf of an in-law who lives in West Philadelphia - where can one find in West Philadelphia a great selection of beer in 6-packs? Right now she's looking for Brooklyn Brewery Black Chocolate Stout. If you know of any interesting place(s) regardless of whether they have Black Chocolate Stout at this moment, please inform. I know some places in NJ where I live, but I specifically wrote West Philadelphia, by which I mean anywhere from UC out to Upper Darby or Cobbs Creek/Clifton Hts area

Otherwise I'll tell ther to check out Latimer Deli on 15th St in CC. Although I don't recall if they carry Brooklyn Brewery's offerings, the last time I was there they had a wide variety of appealing domestic and impoted beers in the treasured, chilled, 6-pack format ;-) tyia

i don't know of anything in west philly, but if you are sending her to latimer's you might as well send her to foodery at tenth and pine as well.

Agreed with mazz3 in that if she's crossing the river anyway, Foodery is a significantly better place to go than Latimer's.

In West Philly, I'd say my favourite spot to grab a mix-and-match 6-pack is Cavanaugh's (on Penn's campus, on 37th right above Walnut) - I'm almost certain that I've seen the Brooklyn Brewery Black Chocolate Stout there. Otherwise, pizza spots tend to be hit or miss - though even the misses tend to carry one or two great ones. Best House is a little further out (43rd & Baltimore) with a decent selection, not quite Cav's, though. Beyond that, I'm not really sure.
