Upscale Oakland Restaurants

Hi everyone. I'm looking for a delicious, somewhat upscale restaurant in Oakland to take my boyfriend's father to on December 24th. Camino is closed that night, and I think that Oliveto's is a bit too expensive. We are already planning to go to Pizzaiolo on Saturday. We all love good, innovative food, and are not picky eaters. I'm coming in from NYC, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

  1. If you can get in at Wood Tavern, that would be my first choice. But it might be fully booked unless you're willing to eat at the bar.

Eating at the bar is probably not the best choice of entertaining one's boyfriend's father. How about Flora? Soizic? Bay Wolf (might be in Oliveto territory pricewise)? Or if you can deal with going into Berkeley, Lalime's. Or Alameda, Pappo.

      Soizic Restaurant
      300 Broadway, Oakland, CA 94607

      Flora
1900 Telegraph Ave, Oakland, CA 94612

      Bay Wolf Restaurant
3853 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, CA 94611

      Pappo
2320 Central Avenue, Alameda, CA 94501

      Lalime's
      1329 Gilman, Berkeley, CA 94706

    2. If Jojo is open [they may be taking the week off], it will give you a last chance to dine at one of the East Bay's best...I'd recommend Bay Wolf, but it's prices are in the Oliveto range and may be too dear...

Consider A Cote, or Bellanica...although not Oakland proper, you also might enjoy Bucci's in Emerville, or Corso in Berkeley...

Jojo's is closing permanently; New Year's Eve will be their last dinner service.

      2. I would second Wood Tavern, but if you cant get in also consider Garibaldi's on College or Dona Thomas on Telegraph.

        1. FYI, Pizzaiolo will be closed for Christmas, the 24th through the 28th, reopening on Monday. Sorry if that screws up your plans!

          1. If it's open, I would pick A Cote first, and Wood Tavern second (you're more likely to get a table at the former).

            1. If you're willing to drive into Berkeley, both Rivoli and Lalime's are excellent places to eat and are a tad less expensive than Olivetto. But booking anywhere on Christmas Eve is going to be a problem for you. Good luck!

              1. Be warned if you go to Garabaldi's. The food is good, but the service is abysmally slow and indifferent.

                1. Where did you go?
