Any good restaurants between Worcester and Mystic?

Hi All - Would love to meet family halfway between Worcester and Rhode Island (South County) for dinner one evening but don't know of any restaurants along the way. Wondering if anyone can recommend places along the Route 395 to Route 138 corridor in Connecticut?

I'd opt for the Vanilla Bean, too. I like it better in the summer when you can sit outside, but the interior of the place is pretty nice, too, and the soups, salads, and sandwiches are excellent, IMO.

I second the suggestion of 85 Main in Putnam. Limited menu choices, but very good food, and a decent bottled beer selection (for the area).

For a more mainstream menu, try the Courthouse. Its just down the road from 85 Main. Serves typical pub food, steaks, some fish, pasta etc...I've never been "wowed", but never disappointed either. The menu offers a wide set of choices for a variety of eaters.

Agree, I recall having a good bowl of white chowder at the Courthouse.

www.85main.com in Putnam, or www.thevanillabeancafe.com ...I think that's actually in Pomfret. Both excellent, 85 Main leaning towards fine dining, Vanilla Bean an almost-rustic cafe w/wonderful chili, sandwiches & desserts (entrees too...I just think the other things are their stock in trade).

If you're willing to jog a little west, Willimantic Brewing Company is a fun brewpub with excellent beers and good food.
