This is a popular cut at Chinese butchers. They break down whole pigs every morning and you can get a whole one or a portion of the shoulder. Head over to Clement Street in SF in the morning.

Or if you feel like heading across the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, 99 Ranch at the Pacific East Mall.

I would add that if you are coming from Sausalito, Clement Street is good, but also Irving Street just west of 19th.

Anyone have a favorite Chinese butcher in Chinatown?

The Safeway-that-doesn't-call-itself-safeway ("pak-n-save" or something?) at
40th and San Pablo in the Home Depot complex often has nice big ones for
            real cheap.

Right now, Safeway is selling very nice pork shoulder roasts for 99 cents per pound. I braised one the other day and it was really good.

I usually see pork shoulder for sale at the Lucky store in San Francisco@Fulton&Masonic.

I see Safeway is selling pork shoulder this week for $0.99 a pound.

I saw a whole pork leg and pork butt at Lucky's as well. Which is very unusual. They were vacuum packed, can't remember the price or the farm where it came from.

At which Lucky's location did you see that?

Even when not on the shelves, I have been able to get bone-in butts still in their cryovack bags from the butcher at my local Lucky's in Novato.

Also, Smart & Final often has boneless ones on their shelves.
