I-95 Road Trip

  • 5

Just want to praise O' Steens in St Augustine. I suggest you have the fried shrimp (I don't like fried shrimp but my spouse ordered it and I am sorry I didn't). Make sure you have some hush puppies, the fire dokra and the Minorcan Chowder (a tomato based chowder.

  1. I too love O'Steens, but have never had the fire dokra. I have had the fried okra and it was lovely. A little spell check before you post is always appreciated. The fried shrimp is exceptional there in my opinion, and worth the wait.

I don't know if the value erodes when cooked, but nutrional yeast is a true staple in my kitchen. I make a "vinagrette" of olive oil, Bragg liquid aminos ( you could use soy sauce instead) and nutrional yeast. 2:1 oil to Bragg, and then enough yeast to make it creamy. It is delicious on everything!

Amen to the spell check! :-)

    2. Glad you enjoyed it! I'll take the fried okra anyway it ends up being spelled...It is always good to hear back on recommendations!

I purchased some of their datil sauce on my last visit and accidentally left it at my sisters...I'm considering the 24 hour drive just to get it! It was that good.

      1. I agree. O'Steens probably has the best shrimp in town. Don't be fooled by its appearance and ambiance (i.e. NONE). It is very good shrimp!

        1. If you don't want to get too far off I-95, I can suggest the Murray Brothers' Caddyshack. I had a good Chicago style Brat & they feature other Chicago favorites.
