Upscale Christmas Day in Greenwich or Portchester

My family is taking my elderly, but in great shape, in laws for Christmas Day dinner(3pm)
I tried Morello Bistro with great excitement based on the reviews- UGH! they're closed on Christmas Day! Now what? I think we're going to have a problem finding a really great impressive place. The in-laws live in Byram(border of Portchester and Greewich). We know all of the great food in that area but not the most upscale places- Tarry Lodge chow reviews have been awful and I don't even know if they'll be open. We need to stay very close to their home so only Greewich and Portchester- maybe Rye Brook.

  1. On Christmas Day, you could try the Hyatt. Or something Asian. Don't think you'll have much luck beyond that.

Thanks amanda but aisian is YUK and not upscale for us and Hyatt is pretty but awful food and they actually frequent their for the brunch. Any other suggestions? We'd go to Rye also.

Thanks, Shawn. We thought of that but wanted something comparable to morello or the former Gaia(we took them there 2 yrs. ago and they loved it and thought it was really special.
Do you think we are having to sttle for steak houses? We'll go to Rye also.

yes, it didn't seem very interesting but humbly, they are offering an "economic helping" pricing. They have lowered their prices and state that they are accommodating for economic difficult times- wow to do that is one thing but to state it is terrific!!! i called henkleman who snobbishly told me that it's 80.00 pp for app. entree, dessert. when i asked about my 12 year old, he told me that she was not a child but if she wanted plain pasta, he would give it to me for 60.00.
Great news- Le Paniterre in Rye, is having dinner on xmas! Special, was happy to alter their menu to prepare whatever my 12 year old wanted, etc.! F.I.S.H. was helpful as we discussed my idea of staying open and therefore, having a chanukah observing crowd for xmas. ( we celebrate chanukah but celebrate my in laws' xmas)F.I.S.H. told me they were all jewish and loved the idea but that they didn't think they would have anyone to work on xmas. so they stay closed. interesting research with a great conclusion for us. I'm very excited about our xmas dinner now! Thanks for the help.

Husband and I went to l'escale for christmas day dinner - they had a special 3 course menu @ $60 pp including coffee/tea. This is different from their regular economic menu and the food was amazing. There were several options for each course but we both chose the maine lobster salad with citrus vinaigrette as our appetizer (nice to get a clean tasting lobster salad with none of the heavy mayo sauces you usually see) and then the filet mignon with blue cheese potato feuillete and haricot verts The filets were cooked to perfection and the potatoes were fantastic. For dessert, I had delicious profiteroles with chocolate sauce, ice cream and candied almonds and my husband had the fig bread pudding which he said was very good.

The decor is very clean, upscale French provence - off white, wooden beams, antique style lighting with nice views of the water.

Wasn't sure what to expect, given some of the reviews on chowhound but we had an excellent Christmas meal and the service was spot on.
