I think anybody can go to the seafood distribution center in south philly.
You might try e frank hopkins @ 3427 S. Lawrence St.
There are others.

Have you tried Samuels and Son? Seems like they have an interesting menu of oysters.

Samuels and sons usually has about 30 different kinds of oysters and you can pick them up at Ippolitos with 24 hrs notice if the distribution center scares you!

Where is Samuels & Son located?

2501 S 70th is the distribution center address. Their retail sales are at Ippolitos, 13th and Dickenson. They do retail at the 70th street location as well but they are only open until 3. You can call Ippolitos and they'll make sure they get whatever you want from the distribution center (ie: in addition to specific types of Oysters - cape may salts, chef's cove, komomoto (sp?) - I have gotten real dover sole)

Can you get smaller quantities by going through Ippolitos? I'm looking at the Samuels and Sons 'Oyster Update' and pretty much everything is priced per 100 oysters.

Absolutely! I have gotten as few as a dozen via special order (who'd want less than a dozen?). Also, right now for the holidays they are stocking six different varieties of oysters at Ippolitos - I got two of each the other day - blue points, cape may salts, chef's cove, komomoto, winn-something and another that totally slips my mind. They were all extraordinary!

Thanks. Reading the Oyster Update makes me appreciate Ansill's $1 oyster happy hour much more.

That's retail cost at Ippys for 5 of the 6 varieties the are carrying now! FYI - they are open until MIDNIGHT on teusday in preparation for 7 fishes on Wednesday!
