Great Bars in Northern Bergen County...Do they Exist?

As a late twenty-something living in Northern Bergen the harder I look for a bar that's not a throwback to college, the more I believe it doesn't exist.

I am seeking a place I can go for a drink and meet someone my age but not have to shout just to get his/her name. Maybe a place with decent food (but not necessarily).

Regardless, I've seen my share of awful Jersey bars over the years. I did the Nyack bar scene for several years as well and was never impressed. So does a "grown up" bar that appeals to the late twenties/early thirties set exist around here?

Any thoughts?

  1. Three Places come to mind with the age group you have mentioned:

Tommy Fox's in Bergenfield and The Poitin Still in Hackensack for the busy larger atmoshpere......and a nice sleeper bar is Lazy Lanigan's, also in Hackensack, but a much more subdued local bar atmosphere,

One of the newest bars to open is in Teaneck called The Ultra Bar....I cannot attest to the crowd, as I have not been there, but traditionally, the location has a crowd leaning towards the younger side.

Ultra Bar is a great place but it is more lounge than bar. They have great food but most people go for drinks and the DJs.

As far as bars there is the The junkyard in Rochelle Park, The Conerstone in Hillsdale, Jay Dees in Carlstadt, The Office in Ridgewood and even Biagio's on Paramus Rd gets a good bar crowd.
