Setubal

I received a bottle of 1965 J.M. Fonseca Moscatel Superior as a gift. I am not familiar with this style of wine, but my understanding is that it is still drinking well. My question is what to serve it with. Here is the Spectator note:

This full-bodied, sweet dessert wine, with its lovely amber color, is rich and voluptuous, with beautiful texture, loads of maple, honey and spice flavors, caramel notes that linger on the finish, and a nice, smoky, oxidized quality overall. It's balanced, and elegant, too. Drink now.

Any ideas for a match?

A delicate nut tart, not too sweet, with some orange zest in the crust and a thin drizzle of semi-sweet chocolate as a garnish. Or sandy-style nut cookies featuring the same flavours.

It's an outstanding wine, no matter what the Speculator says!

Jose-Maria da Fonseca is the leading producer of Sétubal Moscatels, and they are stunning wines!

JJD's apple tart would work, as would a classic tart tartin -- or one made with pears instead of apples.

That is a hell of a wine! I have had it and also the Fonseca Trilogia (blend of 1900, 1948, 1965)

I had it with a baked apple tart with vanilla bean ice cream, dusted lighty with fleur de sel... it worked great, though some sort of roasted nut component to the dish could have taken it even higher.
