What is the BEST Middle Eastern, Maghrebin or Israeli Rest. near Ave. M?
So... As I've said in a post before, I am new to a place off of Ave. M & Ocean Ave. and I really need to know the BEST BEST BEST Maghrebin (N. African) or Middle Eastern food?
Take into consideration that I am MUSLIM & I do NOT eat PORK & prefer HALAL places if possible...
Also, take into consideration that JEWISH deli and restaurant is NOT the same thing as "ISRAELI" restaurant, because most places in the U.S. that are American Jewish, they have very different eating habits ;)
Thanks!!!

I dont know the Kings Hway strip, but if you want Israeli, you could try Olympic Pita on Coney Island Ave - they serve some yemeni items - their yemeni style chicken soup is very good.
the biggest concentrations of middle eastern people in Brooklyn are on Atlantic Ave in downtown Brooklyn and in Bay Ridge, with the biggest concentration of stores,on 5th Ave from 67th st down into the 70s and 80s. and on Third Avenue in the same general zone. YOu could search or post a query for more info in these areas.
For north African, there is Fez on Prospect Park West in Windsor Terrace as well as Maison de Couscous in Bay Ridge. I dont know if either uses halal meat, but you could call and ask.
There is no good Afghan place on Coney Island Ave these days (Bahar is downhill), but there are numerous halal butchers and pakistani restaurants and groceries in the Punjabi strip there.
You might check the Kosher board for more info in your immediate area.

I went to Mabat (on E 7th or 8th just off Kings Hiway) recently and it remains good, although a little pricey. It's a long standing solid Israeli Kosher meat restaurant with very nice skewers & salads. As someone else said, there are other Kosher places in this immediate neighborhood as well.
Two other suggestions... I think that Taci's Beyta, the Turkish place on Coney Island Ave off Ave P is halal but I'm not sure. If not, they'd know which Turkish places in the immediate area are halal. And, In the other direction on Coney Island Ave, there are Afgani restaurants sprinkled in among the Pakistanian ones and most, if not all, are halal.
Of course, if you want to wander off to other areas of Bklyn, the main Lebanese, Syrian, Palestinian places are now in Bay Ridge on 3rd, 4th and 5th Ave in the 70s and 80s (many are halal) & Atlantic Ave has Yemen Cafe and several others off Court St. There's also some interesting food to be had on Fulton, north of Flatbush... I know that Mariam's is halal (Ghanian?) and Joloff may be as well.

there is a small strip of Mid Eastern restaurants on Kings Highway around East 3rd -4th Streets. They are kosher, catering to the Syrian Jewish community in that neighborhood.
