Wedding catering at various venues in TO
I'm working on planning a wedding in 2010 and I'd really like to do a downtown event but I'm getting freaked out by the costs and not knowing what the quality of food is like from caterers I'm speaking with.
Places I've checked out online:
Capitol Event Theatre
I'm really loving the Steam Whistle, but not sure if any of the caterers are a) good with food & service and b) capable of making it at all affordable. If not the Liberty looks to be one of the cheapest places but I have no idea if the food is worth it. Any comments on the food & service at these venues?
Any comments on the affordability and quality of these caterers?

I know I sound like a commercial for these guys, but the food and service at the Metropolitian Hotel on Walnut was impeccable when I got married there a few weeks ago. I really feel like I got great value for the money. It's not the cheapest, but it comes with honestly great service.
I'd advise against the Liberty Grand. I've been there for a few times for functions and while it wasn't awful, it wasn't great either.
We've booked Steam Whistle for a wedding in July 2010. We really love the venue and the fact that we can bring our own alcohol (big money saver). I contacted Rose Reisman, Eatertainment, and Beyond Catering for quotes. All three were able to provide a decent spread within our price range (about $100 per person, including food, service, and rentals). The key is to know what you would like to spend and then they work around that. As for food, you can ask for tastings to see if their menu is right for you.
In the end, we decided to go with Eatertainment because they had the most suitable menu and the coordinator, Jennifer Draper, seemed to know the venue the best and was very organized. There are some positive comments about Eatertainment events at Steam Whistle on this forum. Overall, we are happy with our decision.
We used By David's for our wedding, which is part of the Rose Reisemann group, though I think that each group has its own executive chef. We absolutely loved our food and our guests told us it was the best food they'd ever had at a wedding. Their homemade dessert buffet was so good we didn't even bother getting a separate wedding cake!
