Rehearsal Dinner----Westside? Help!
My fiancee and I are trying to help his out of town father figure out a spot for our wedding rehearsal dinner. Most out-of-towners, of whom there will be quite a number of, will be staying in Santa Monica. I'd like to keep the drive for all involved within reason, and the price tag within reason for dad-in-law-to-be. There will be 40ish people and casual is a-Ok by me.
Any suggesions would be oh so greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
L
You might try Royal Star (CHinese) in West LA/Santa Monica. For Persian (stews, kebabs, etc.), Javan in West LA (the restaurant is "split" into two rooms, perhaps they could give you the smaller room), or Sheherezad Flame in Westwood.
Congratulations!

We had ours at C&O Trattoria in Marina Del Rey. It was terrific fun, they put large parties on their outdoor patio (there are heaters). Since it's served family style, that lends towards good interaction. It was about $20 per person (once the tax and gratuity was figured in), fixed menu. It's a very casual place and I think they only serve wine, so if having a full bar is a priority, this won't be the place for you. Their other location, C & O Cucina, does have a full bar but I've never been there so I can't vouch for the atmosphere.

What about Cafe Bizou on Colorado at the Water Garden? Nice atmosphere, great food, good prices, and a $3 corckage fee! Also, they have a private room in the back that looks great for parties.

Suzy, thank's for the tip on the private room at Bizou. I'm planning an 80th birthday party for my Mother-in-Law (In August) and am starting to look for places now. Bizou is her all time favorite and I never would have thought to check it out!!
Do you know how many people it holds?

Bizou's room holds 50, but they can put a screen up in the regular dining room for overflow.

17th Street Cafe on Montana has a private room that holds around 30-35 people, and the menu is quite reasonable.
We had too many people to hold our RD there (50 guests), so we had ours at El Cholo. I know that the board does not like El Cholo, but we were on a tight budget...and it turned out to be a lot of fun. We also wanted it to feel VERY different from the next day's reception...so we tried to avoid a typical salad/entree/dessert sit-down meal. We started with pitchers of Margaritas and Sangria, chips w/salsa and guac, and appetizer platters. Everyone was mingling during this "happy hour" time. After that, everyone sat down at tables and ordered from the special menu. The food was okay, and that was fine for what we were looking for. The price was right and everyone had a great time.

We had a very convivial, fun, casual and fairly reasonably priced rehearsal dinner at Buca di Beppo in SM. No doubt also frowned on my foodies, but it's good food and the family style sharing makes for everyone getting to know each other well in time for the big event!
