Tirupathi Bhimas Not So Good

I went here after reading about it in J. Gold's top 99. What a disappointment. Moving beyond the C grade in the window, the Spicy Thali was really marginal. The rice was an uninspiring big lump. The rassam and sambhar were only ok, the other dishes were all soupy not nearly as spicy as I wanted/expected dishes, the only toothsome vegetable dish was a potato concoction with what looked like curry leavesin it, nothing special tasting at all, yoghurt, one orange colored uttapam like sweet with lumps of pineapple in it, not so good. The pappadams were ok, and the waiter brought extra.

I've had better thalis in Artesia at Udupi Palace, Jay Bharat, even Annapurna all you can eat south Indian buffet in West LA, although my favorite is the now long departed Madhus Dhasaprakash that was on Santa Moncia Boulevard in a strip mall upstairs (I think they have a branch elsewhere).

They were really good in the beginning, but our last couple visits have been so-so. The food has really declined in quality. Hopefully they will get back up to the level they were at when they first opened.

Try the Woodlands Artesia buffet lunch instead. It includes unlimited made to order dosas.

We went to woodlands after all the great reviews. The dosas were just so-so and the place was filthy--the floors were littered with food and other debris.

For dosas--try either surti farsan or jay Bharat. Jay Bharat is across the street from Tirupathi Bhimas and much better.
